:: Mikelson 43 Zeus, Cockpit Features ::

The Mikelson 43 Zeus is back in the water and the engine and pod systems are being tested and fine tuned. This week we wanted to showcase the cockpit of the Mikelson 43 Zeus.

Looking aft, the Mikelson 43 Zeus has a large bait tank system that is integrated into the transom. The bait tank can be subdivided into two tanks, which allows you keep two different kinds or sizes of baits or you can remove the center wall to have one large bait tank. The cockpit also features six Precision Marine rod holders (pictured on both sides of the bait tank). Also, you can see the beautiful teak deck in the cockpit that not only looks great, but keeps the glare down from those memorable days on the fishing grounds.

On both the port and starboard sides of the cockpit we have custom Teak Isle tackle lockers that are engraved with the Mikelson logo. The lockers allow for quick access to tackle in the four standard Plano boxes.

Facing forward in the cokpit, we have the day head and another large tackle center. There is an overhead storage locker with ample room for cockpit electronics and storage. We also have a larger tackle center that is complete with a freshwater sink, storage drawers and shelves.

The day head is another feature that really sets Mikelson apart from other sportfishers. Fishermen on board can stay close to the action while keeping the interior of your boat clean without walking through your salon, wet and dirty, to use the head. The day head also has a Scandvik pull-out freshwater hot and cold shower.

We hope you enjoyed this post and invite your comments or feedback. This Mikelson 43 Zeus is currently being comissioned at our San Diego docks and we invite you to come down and see what Mikelson has to offer. Feel free to call us at 619-222-5007.

:: Mikelson 43 Zeus, Engine and Pod Install ::

Since the Mikelson 57 is comlpeted, this week we focused on the Mikelson 43 Zeus. The Mikelson 43 Zeus is currently being comissioned at our docks in San Diego on Shelter Island. As you can see from the pictures below, we are currently focusing on the Cummins engine and Zeus pod install. Here is a couple of shots of the engines being lifted and placed into position. The engines easily fit through the engine hatches which makes for an easy installation and also for full access for future maintanence.

Shown below is a view from the helm.

The Cummins Zeus pods being prepped for install.

Pod drives installed.

:: Mikelson 57 Nearing Completion ::

We are nearing completion of the Mikelson 57 at our docks in San Diego. This week we continue to test and refine all systems on board. Some of the additions this week include the installation of a fighting chair and stainless steel railing to the swimstep (seen below). The cockpit on the Mikelson 57 is massive. Even with a full size fighting chair, you still have a tremendous amount of room to walk around, and all of the access hatches in the cockpit floor are still easily accessible.

Below is a shot of the port side engine access hatch. Both the port and starboard access hatches are controlled by electric actuators so that you can easily open/close them by the push of a button. Additonally, we installed a 5.0 cubic foot chest freezer in the engine room. This will allow for extra food storage for extended trips.

Lastly, we installed the stainless steel chocks and placed the dinghy on board. Note, the amount of space around the dinghy and davit, as well as the bow railing. We strive to build each boat with safety, comfort, and ease of use in mind.

We hope you enjoy the Mikelson Yachts blog and invite you to leave us your comments or questions. Feel free to call us 619-222-5007.

:: Mikelson 57 Looking Good ::

Once again, we have had a very productive week on the latest Mikelson 57. This week the 3/4 enclosure was installed on the flybridge which covers the forward, port, and starboard portions. Further progress was made on the installation of the fishing and navigation electronics. The flybridge carpet and Stidd helm chairs have also been installed.

Next, in the engine room, we have added a Village Marine 800GPD (gallon per day) watermaker.

In the galley you can see the beautiful woodwork and how the appliances have been nicely integrated. The interior carpet has been installed this week as well.

Lastly, we wanted to show off the very large undersalon on the Mikelson 57. Many Mikelson owners have come to nickname this space "the garage" for obvious reasons. In this area the owners have opted for a Bosch washer and dryer, as well as a Kenmore icemaker. There are also custom cabinets for storage as well as more open space for provisions, water toys, fishing gear, etc., etc., ...

We hope you enjoy seeing this magnificent Mikelson come together and we invite you to give us a call at 619-222-5007 for more information.

PS...next week is the 37th Annual Newport Boat Show. Mikelson will have several models in the show and we invite you come by and say hello. For more info on the boat show go to http://www.newportinwaterboatshow.com/ . We hope to see you there!!!

:: Mikelson 57 Moving Along ::

This has been a busy week as work continues on getting the Mikelson 57 at our docks ready for her new owners. This week we installed several items including: the Steelhead 1000# Davit, fishing/navigation electronics, and entertainment electronics. The boat was also put back in the water yesterday as well.

- Steelhead Marine 1000# Davit installed. -

- Samsung 32" flatscreen installed in salon. The boat has a home theater system with cube speakers in the four corners of the salon and a subwoofer. There are also Poly Planar speakers that are mounted into the headliner of each stateroom, as well as two pairs of marine grade JBL speakers mounted in the cokpit and flybridge, respectively. The entertainment system is equipped to play CD, DVD, AM/FM tuner, XM Radio, and has an IPod dock. Additionally, we have also installed a Channel Vision audio/video switching system. This allows the user to access the entertaiment on board through the small keypads that are mounted in each of the 3 staterooms, salon, and flybridge. With this system the boat is divided into different "zones" allowing the freedom to mix and match what you want to watch and listen to on board, all from one centralized entertainment unit. For example, the captain can listen to XM radio on the flybridge, while the crew is enjoying a DVD in the salon, and while the kids are listening to the IPod in the forward stateroom OR you can play a CD of your favorite artist on all of the zones while you relax with a drink while entertaining guests. -
